Why sailors choose the First 47.7
The First 47.7 is a Farr racer-cruiser, a larger follow-on to the 40.7, sold in racing and cruising configurations. Owners like that it is balanced and forgiving, easy to push hard without a nervous helm, and it has done well under IRC, including a 2-3-4 finish in Class 1 at the Hamble Series. The cockpit is smaller than some rivals' and the test boat was noisy under engine.
- Forgiving, well-balanced helm that suits owner-drivers
- Proven IRC results in Class 1
- Racing and cruising rig, keel and layout options
- Large saloon for cruising
- Smaller cockpit; engine noise and vibration in the test boat

Yachting World test by Matthew Sheahan · Yachting World, 2001
He criticised the engine noise and vibration, a cockpit smaller than rivals', and no foot braces for the helmsman.
