How Regatta Index works
A reference to every recurring sailing race on the Mediterranean, the Sea of Marmara, the Black Sea and Iberia's Atlantic coast: when they run, who won, and what the sea was like.

Where the facts come from
- Races, dates and results come from the organisers' own sites and results pages, class associations, results services such as Manage2Sail and Sailwave, and sailing press. Every result on the site links to the page it came from.
- Weather on race days and by month is ERA5 reanalysis and marine data, taken at each race's start venue. Source: Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0).
- Maps use Natural Earth outlines through world-atlas. Boat drawings are our own, to scale from published lengths, not the designers' plans.
- Boat designs carry published figures from builders, class associations and spec databases, each with its source.
- Race signals are our own plain summaries; the rules themselves belong to World Sailing.
How we check them
Research, by people or by AI tools, is treated as a lead, not as data: a fact goes on the site only when a page we can read states it. Where sources disagree, or a result is provisional, the page says so. Dates in a race's usual month are marked as estimates until the organiser publishes them. Boats are matched by name across results, and sponsor names are folded into the boat only when nothing contradicts it.
The toughness score
Our own 0–100 score to compare races, not an official rating. Five parts, each scaled to a ceiling and worth part of the 100:
| Mean wind on race days | full marks at 25 kn | 30 pts |
| Strongest gust | full marks at 45 kn | 15 pts |
| Highest waves | full marks at 4 m | 20 pts |
| Course length | full marks at 700 nm | 25 pts |
| Days of racing | full marks at 7 days | 10 pts |
Averaged over the editions we have weather for. Each race page shows its five parts. Compare races side by side →
What we leave out
- Race logos, photos and designers' drawings, which belong to their owners. Official sites are always one link away.
- Photos of people, full dates of birth, and any birth data for anyone under 18.
- Tracking and advertising. Read our privacy page
