Why sailors choose the A-35

The Archambault A35 is a Joubert-Nivelt racer-cruiser that made its name in French IRC racing, aimed at a sweet spot in the rule. Judges praised its build quality, balanced steering and suitability for both crewed buoy racing and offshore races, with a usable family interior. The symmetric spinnaker version is more work than the sprit version.

  • Strong record in French and European IRC racing
  • Well built, light deck
  • Very balanced, precise steering
  • Suits windward-leeward and offshore racing as well as cruising
  • Symmetric kite set-up is harder work than the sprit option

What sailors and testers say · in our words, from the linked pages

  • Judges rated it among the best-built boats they had sailed, with superb steering, fit for crewed buoy or distance racing and family cruising.

Sailing World Boat of the Year judges, report by Tony Bessinger · Sailing World, 2008

  • The original A35 became a serious contender in French IRC racing; the relaunch kept its hull and moved saved weight into the keel.
