Why sailors choose the IMX-40

The IMX 40 is an X-Yachts racer-cruiser from 2000, drawn for IMS racing and successful on European circuits, with a carbon, runnerless rig. A Sailing World tester found it fast, stiff and responsive, quick downwind and able to handle offshore passages and some cruising. The rudder could stall in shifty upwind conditions and it is less cruise-oriented than other X-Yachts.

  • IMS racer with a strong European race record
  • Stiff, stable and responsive with a sensitive helm
  • Quick upwind in chop and over 10 knots downwind
  • Carbon runnerless rig is simple to handle
  • Upwind rudder stall needs attentive trimming
  • Less cruising comfort than other X-Yachts
