Regatta Index is a reference site about sailing races. It shows no ads and sells nothing; analytics and Google ads run only if you agree.
When you visit
- Analytics only if you agree.A banner asks once. If you accept, we use Google Analytics (loaded through Google Tag Manager) to count visits and see which pages are read: it sets first-party cookies and Google processes the data for us as our processor. If you reject, or never answer, nothing from Google loads and no cookies are set. You can change your mind any time with “Cookie settings” at the foot of every page; withdrawing deletes the analytics cookies. Advertising features stay switched off either way. Details on the cookies page.
- Your light or dark theme choice and your cookie choice are kept in your own browser (local storage). They never leave your device, and clearing your browser data removes them.
- Nothing else loads from other companies. Fonts and map outlines are served from our own server. The “Wind now” layer and the “Today’s wind” background are fetched by our server from Open-Meteo and cached, so your browser does not contact them.
- Links to organisers, trackers and sources open their sites, which have their own privacy policies.
What our server sees
Like any website, our server keeps ordinary request logs: your IP address, the time, the page asked for, the page you came from and your browser's name. They are used only to keep the site running and stop abuse, and are deleted after about 14 days. They hold no cookies and nothing you type.
The server is a virtual machine rented from Contabo GmbH in the European Union. Requests reach it through Cloudflare, which carries and protects the traffic and so also sees it.
About sailors and boats on the site
The people and boats pages are built from results the race organisers and classes have already published. For each person we show the name as printed on those results, the nationality and sail numbers printed there, and the races, years and places, each linked to its source. For some Olympic-class sailors we add a birth year from public athlete profiles; we never hold a full date of birth, and we publish no birth data for anyone under 18. We do not publish photos of people.
If something about you is wrong, or you would like your name taken off the site, tell us and we will correct or remove it. Results themselves stay with their organisers.
